How To Train Your DRAGON

DREAMWORKS

The studio that brought you "Shrek," "Madagascar" and "Kung Fu Panda" releases "How to Train Your Dragon" today. Based on the book by Cressida Cowell, Dreamworks DRAGON is set in a Viking world plighted with crop and herd pilfering ... well, Dragons! This beautifully animated action comedy is the story of Viking-to-be and son of the towns leader, an awkward gangly teenager named Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel/She's Out of Your League). What Hiccup lacks in Viking muscle he attempts to make up for in ingenuity with modern-for-the-time Dragon catching contraptions. During a particularly chaotic dragon raid he uses one of these contraptions to clumsily take down the most dangerous and elusive dragon that no Viking had ever even seen and lived to tell. When he goes to claim his prize he finds himself empathetic with the black dragon and releases it. As if pulling a thorn from the lions paw the two become fast friends making the remainder of his screen time much more difficult as he is put to the test along side his young Viking peers to earn his place in the tribe by killing his first dragon. Can he change the minds of his village? Can he change long standing traditional feud? You'll have to hit the theatres to see.

How To Train Your DRAGON is an exciting, fast paced, we'll written and voiced film, and where most films use the now wildly popular 3-D effect as a shtick to mask its lack of story, in this case its a welcome effect that only augments the films depth. Great for kids, awesome for adults and fun for all. Since the first screening I've been fighting off the temptation to head to my nearest exotic reptiles shop and get a black gecko, strap tiny wings on it and name it Toothless. Sigh.

In theatres today!

WALT DISNEY PICTURES’ “JOHN CARTER OF MARS” BEGINS PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY IN LONDON

BURBANK, Calif. – Principal photography is underway in London for Walt Disney Pictures’ “JOHN CARTER OF MARS.” Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton brings this captivating hero to the big screen in a stunning adventure epic set on the wounded planet of Mars, a world inhabited by warrior tribes and exotic desert beings. The stellar ensemble cast is led by Taylor Kitsch (NBC’S “Friday Night Lights”, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) in the title role, Lynn Collins (“50 First Dates,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) as the warrior princess Dejah Thoris and Oscar® nominee Willem Dafoe (“Spider-Man 3,” “Shadow of a Vampire”) as Martian inhabitant Tars Tarkas. A NEW WEBB FOR SPIDER-MAN™

Marc Webb Chosen To Direct Next Chapter of the Acclaimed Series

-Spider-Man to Climb into Theaters in Summer, 2012 -

CULVER CITY, Calif., January 20, 2010 – Marc Webb, the director of the Golden Globe nominated Best Picture(500) Days of Summer, will direct the next chapter in the Spider-Man franchise, set to hit theaters summer 2012, it was jointly announced today by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.

Written by James Vanderbilt, Webb will work closely with producers Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin in developing the project, which will begin production later this year.
Commenting on the announcement, Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, said, “At its core, Spider-Man is a small, intimate human story about an everyday teenager that takes place in an epic super-human world. The key for us as we sought a new director was to identify filmmakers who could give sharp focus to Peter Parker’s life. We wanted someone who could capture the awe of being in Peter’s shoes so the audience could experience his sense of discovery while giving real heart to the emotion, anxiety, and recklessness of that age and coupling all of that with the adrenaline of Spider-Man’s adventure. We believe Marc Webb is the perfect choice to bring us on that journey.”
Arad and Ziskin added jointly, “Over the years, the Spider-Man comics have been told with bold and creative new writers and artists who have re-calibrated the way audiences see Peter Parker. Marc Webb will do for the new direction of the films what so many visionary storytellers have done with the comic books. He is an incredibly talented filmmaker and we look forward to working closely with him on this new adventure.”

Webb said, “This is a dream come true and I couldn't be more aware of the challenge, responsibility, or opportunity. Sam Raimi's virtuoso rendering of Spider-Man is a humbling precedent to follow and build upon. The first three films are beloved for good reason. But I think the Spider-Man mythology transcends not only generations but directors as well. I am signing on not to ‘take over’ from Sam. That would be impossible. Not to mention arrogant. I'm here because there's an opportunity for ideas, stories, and histories that will add a new dimension, canvas, and creative voice to Spider-Man.”

Stan Lee, co-creator of Spider-Man, added, “I’m excited that Sony has chosen a director with a real penchant and understanding for the character. This is a brave, bold direction for the franchise, and I can’t wait to see what Marc comes up with next.”

Added Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, “The idea of re-imagining the on-screen story for one of the world’s most iconic superheros is sure to deliver an exciting new dimension to Spider-Man fans everywhere. There are volumes of comics and material available to inspire fresh and compelling takes on Peter Parker and his journey as Spidey and we look forward to seeing this come alive onscreen.”

BANSHEE!!! Comes To DVD March 23 - A Creature Feature For The New Millenium

BANSHEE!!! Comes To DVD March 23

A Creature Feature For The New Millenium
Synthetic Cinema International and MVD Visual are pleased to announce the release of Banshee!!! for North Americandistribution on March 23, 2010.

In this creature feature, a group of college friends on a spring break camping trip are stalked and slashed by an unknown creature with the ability to make them hallucinate through sound waves. The survivors hold up refuge in an isolated farmhouse, cut off from all communication. Now, they have to come up with a plan to kill this unrelenting creature before it kills them.

Banshee!!! takes the idea of the legendary Irish myth and spins it around into a terrifying and unstoppable monster. The initial concept for the creature was developed by co-producer Andrew Gerhard. Dan Anderson did the actual design and the art. Director ColinTheysthen took his designs and created the digital model for use in the film.

The physical makeup of the creature is unique... It's got a long face. It doesn't have a mouth. Instead it has vibrating flaps it uses to produce sound which allows it to take on the image of whatever it wants to be. It has wings that fold up on its back. It was designed to be something that could be done without a suit. "We wanted to stay away from the guy in a suit monster," saidTheys. "As a CG artist, I hate when you see a guy in a suit and all of the sudden they cut to CGI and it looks totally different. The effects matter to me."

Theys also states:

"We put a ton of effort into the movie to make Banshee!!! standout. In the effects department, we have over a hundred and thirty CGI shots. I handle all of the visual effects, so I'm able to ensure that every effects shot looks the same. There's no variation, each shot looks to be the same quality as the one's before it and after it. It's also got lots of stuff: cool sets, lots of characters, lots of death. We tried to make it different. The producer and I went out and watched a lot of indie horror films to see what worked and what didn't work, so that we wouldn't fall into the same pitfalls that they did. It's shot on video, we've got a good cinematographer who worked really hard to make the film look good. Banshee!!! has lots of action, it's fast-paced, and short but sweet. I hate when low-budget horror movies run too long, it just sort of highlights their flaws."

Banshee!!! had anoverseas theatrical release in 2008 and will be featured here in the states on the Chiller Channel (NBC/Universal) as a Network TV Premiere. It also features internet 'Elebrity' sensations Don & Murph, who have garnered well over 100k views on the web.
