WE ARE WHAT WE ARE - new eOne Acquisition!

ENTERTAINMENT ONE EATS UP THE US RIGHTS TO JIM MICKLE THRILLER WE ARE WHAT WE ARE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED SUNDANCE FILM ACQUIRED BY eONE FOR U.S. THEATRICAL DISTRIBUTION

LOS ANGELES/TORONTO – Entertainment One (“eOne”) has acquired the U.S. rights to Jim Mickle’s suspenseful horror thriller WE ARE WHAT WE ARE for a theatrical release planned for later this year. The film premiered to major critical acclaim this week at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.

In WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, a re-imagining of the 2010 Mexican film of the same name, Jim Mickle paints a gripping and gruesome portrait of an introverted family struggling to keep their macabre traditions alive.

A seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank (Bill Sage, “Boardwalk Empire”) rules his family with a rigorous ferver, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost. As a torrential rainstorm moves into the area, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris (Ambyr Childers, THE MASTER) and Rose (Julia Garner, MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE) are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family. The film also stars Michael Parks (DJANGO UNCHAINED), Kelly McGillis (STAKELAND), Nick Damici (STAKELAND), Wyatt Russell (THIS IS 40) and newcomer Jack Gore.

WE ARE WHAT WE ARE was written by Mickle and Damici. The two previously collaborated on the screenplays for Mickle’s first two features, MULBERRY STREET and STAKELAND (winner of the “Midnight Madness” Audience Award at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival).

WE ARE WHAT WE ARE was produced by Rodrigo Bellott, Andrew D. Corkin, Linda Moran, Nicholas Shumaker and Jack Turner.

The deal was negotiated by Mark Ankner and Christine D’Souza for WME Global, Andre des Rochers for Gray Krauss Stratford Des Rochers LLP, Emilie Georges for Memento Films International and Sejin Croninger, VP Worldwide Acquisitions for eOne. As previously announced, eOne also acquired rights to WE ARE WHAT WE ARE in the UK, Canada, France, Scandinavia and South Africa. Memento Films International is handling international sales.

WE ARE WHAT WE ARE is expected to hit theatres in the US in late 2013, adding to eOne’s exciting upcoming US lineup which includes; Brian de Palma’s PASSION and Sergio Castellitto’s TWICE BORN. The team is also looking forward to making additional acquisition announcements in the coming weeks.

GIRL OF MY DREAMS screening at SunRay

MOVEMENT joined the full house at SunRay Cinema this afternoon for a screening of local indie film GIRL OF MY DREAMS. The 80's style send up to horror movies of that decade in the vein of Nightmare on Elm Street was written and directed by Samuel Farmer also know for his tenure with local music outfits The SKRAELINGS and Man Sized Rat.

Open Road Films to Release Ten, Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, on January 24, 2014

Open Road Films will release Ten, an action thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, directed by David Ayer (End Of Watch) and financed by QED International, nationwide on January 24, 2014.

In Tem Arnold Schwarzengger leads an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house, they think their work is done—until, one-by-one, the ten members mysteriously start to be eliminated.

Tem stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joe Manganiello (HBO's True Blood, Magic Mike), Sam Worthington (Avatar, Terminator Salvation), Harold Perrineau (Zero Dark Thirty, FX's Sons Of Anarchy), Terrence Howard (Red Tails, On The Road), Max Martini, (ABC's Revenge), Josh Holloway (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), Olivia Williams (Anna Karenina), Mireille Enos (Gangster Squad). The Not Fade Away Soundtrack Announced, Available December 18^th

Not Fade Away, the widely anticipated feature film debut from The Sopranos creator David Chase is an ode to the transformative power of rock ‘n’ roll. In 1964, the Rolling Stones appear on television and three best friends from the suburbs of New Jersey decide to form a rock band. The film stars John Magaro, Jack Huston, Will Brill, Bella Heathcote, Brad Garrett, Christopher McDonald and James Gandolfini.

The film’s forthcoming soundtrack on ABKCO Records chronicles the sounds that inspired a generation to pursue dreams of rock stardom and glory. The soundtrack, set for digital release on December 18th, will be available at iTunes and all other digital download stores. Not Fade Away, a Paramount Vantage film, opens in select theaters on December 21st, 2012.

Because music is so central to the film, Chase worked closely with executive producer Steven Van Zandt in compiling recordings that are evocative of the era and propel the narrative of Chase’s screenplay. Van Zandt played Silvio Dante in Chase’s The Sopranos over the course of the groundbreaking series’ six seasons on HBO and in 2002, created “Little Steven’s Underground Garage,” a nationally syndicated rock radio show on SiriusXM Satellite Radio. He is a long-standing member of the E Street Band.

Thanks to Van Zandt’s efforts, the film’s soundtrack includes music from the Rolling Stones, Bo Diddley, Bob Dylan, Sex Pistols, James Brown, The Rascals, Van Morrison, Robert Johnson, Elmore James and many others. The soundtrack album also includes several songs performed by the band members portrayed in the film by actors Magaro and Huston, who cut their own vocal tracks, which were produced by Van Zandt. Tell Me and Parachute Woman are two classic Rolling Stones tracks featured on the Not Fade Away soundtrack release.

Van Zandt commented, “David Chase realizes that in film, like Bruce Springsteen in music, the more detailed, accurate, and nuanced the personal vision, the more compelling the work ends up being. Helping David realize his vision was one of the most satisfying projects of my life. Watching these young actors meet every challenge we threw at them was also quite inspiring.” Chase added, “Music is obviously the soul of this film. And working on the music, especially with Steven, was certainly the favorite part. John Magaro and Jack Huston sing on these tracks and they really stand up.”

The ABKCO soundtrack includes the original versions of the songs that inspired the formation of the band whose story is at the core of the film, as well as music played by the band as heard in the film.

Barbara Streisand and Seth Rogen Take The Guilt Trip to 20 Cities
